Find your research people.

A small, friendly group of medical students, F1s and F2s who want to get into research, share ideas and stop feeling like they’re doing it all on their own.

What this is

A low-pressure space for curious medics who want to do real projects alongside normal rota chaos. No “superstar” vibes, no complicated sign-up process – just a group of people learning how research actually works in real hospitals and universities.

Who this is for

  • You’re curious about research but not sure where to begin.
  • You’d like to get involved in projects or have your own ideas you’d like to test.
  • You’re happy to share ideas, be kind to other people’s attempts and learn in public.

Who this isn’t for

  • People only interested in “CV points” with no interest in the work itself.
  • Anyone expecting guaranteed authorship, publications or ready-made SFP applications.
  • Rudeness, ego, or tearing down other people’s projects.

What actually happens

  • Monthly call: a Zoom / Discord session to check in on projects, share wins and ask questions.
  • Small group chat: a WhatsApp / Discord group for quick questions (“does this email sound okay?”, “how do I register an audit?”).
  • Project ideas: people occasionally post “I’ve got an idea – who’s in?” and form small groups around audits, QI or med ed projects.

Ideas you can steal

We keep a running list of simple project prompts you can adapt to your own trust or university, e.g.:

  • Audit ideas you can run in almost any hospital.
  • Simple med ed projects you can do with a small group of students.
  • QI ideas that don’t need funding or complex approvals.
  • Data projects for people who like R / Python and want to play with real datasets.

How it works

  1. Fill in the form below so we know who you are, where you are in training, and what you’d like from the group.
  2. You’ll be added to the group chat and sent details for the next call or meet-up.
  3. Turn up, listen in, share what you’re working on and ask for help when you need it.

There’s no minimum commitment, fees, or pressure. Lurking quietly at first is completely fine.
